The second-hand marketplace Members Share Frustration About Size Updates

Shoppers are voicing their frustration due to a modification that led to items being listed as the wrong size.

This online marketplace has updated its measurement guidelines for women's and children's clothes without notifying every member regarding the update.

Online Platforms Reaction

Countless users and merchants are posting online stating that platform listings now display an altered size classification compared to what was initially listed due to the recalibration.

The company said the revised method more closely matches other platforms.

It has advised users to review their products and manually change the size where appropriate, which has left users frustrated.

Measurement Approach Modifications

Earlier, the sizing featured one number and one letter, like S/8 or M/10.

The updated approach includes a letter with a size spectrum for example S/UK 8-10.

In some cases, the sizing has been recategorised - like an L measurement was formerly size 12 but is now a UK 16-18.

Frankie Bridger, who produces content about larger sizing, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".

"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.

Another user, from Glasgow, stated items she posted on Vinted with size 14 labels were appearing on the platform as size 20–22.

"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they will likely be quite upset," she explained.

Manual Updates

A different user, located in England, said she had been left angered due to the update requiring manual adjustment the measurements for "each individual item".

"Personally, this is quite irritating, as I'm chronically ill and platform income has been essential after experiencing income reduction," she explained.

Service Background

The service features exceeding 100 million members, with 18 million British users.

It has proved a popular alternative versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.

This is not the initial instance when a surprising modification to the app has proved unpopular: previously, the service retracted a modification to its shipping options due to shopper criticism.
